Question 1

Where does the Viking Aton sail?

Accepted Answer

The Viking Aton sails Viking's Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary on the Nile: a round-trip Cairo cruisetour with three nights in Cairo (pyramids and the Egyptian Museum), flights to Luxor, then Nile sailing past Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan, with an optional extension to Abu Simbel.

Question 2

What is included in the Viking river cruise fare?

Accepted Answer

Viking fares are notably inclusive. The cruisetour includes hotels and internal flights in Egypt, all meals on board with wine, beer and soft drinks at lunch and dinner, a shore excursion at every stop with private Egyptologist guides, unlimited Wi-Fi, gratuities for the crew, port charges and airport transfers as listed.

Question 3

What dining options are available on the Viking Aton?

Accepted Answer

The ship includes a main restaurant serving Egyptian and international cuisine with open seating, plus indoor-outdoor casual dining and a sun-deck pool bar. There are no cover-charge specialty restaurants; all dining venues are included in your fare.

Question 4

What staterooms does the Viking Aton offer?

Accepted Answer

The ship offers 41 outside staterooms across four categories: 12 Standard Staterooms, 21 Veranda Staterooms with full private balconies, 6 Veranda Suites with separate sitting rooms and 2 Explorer Suites.

Question 5

Is the Viking Aton an adults-only ship?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Like all Viking river and ocean ships, the ship is designed for curious, adults-only travellers; guests must be 18 or older to sail. There are no children's clubs or family facilities, which keeps the atmosphere calm and cultural.

Question 6

Is there Wi-Fi on the Viking Aton?

Accepted Answer

Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the ship. Connection speeds are best while docked in Luxor, Aswan and the larger towns and can slow while sailing through rural stretches of the Nile.

Question 7

Does the Viking Aton have a pool or gym?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the sun deck has a small swimming pool with a pool bar and shaded loungers, a rarity on river ships. There is no gym; the focus is on daily excursions with your Egyptologist, and the sun deck makes a peaceful place to watch the riverbanks pass.

Question 8

How is a river cruise different from an ocean cruise?

Accepted Answer

River ships are smaller and dock right in the heart of towns and temple sites, often stepping off into the sights in minutes. There are no sea days: every day brings a new stop, and the scenery is always in view. On board the mood is cultural and relaxed, with lectures and guided visits rather than big-ship entertainment.

Question 9

Can I book a Viking Aton river cruise from Dubai?

Accepted Answer

The ship does not sail from Dubai, but you can absolutely book it from the UAE. CruiseWorld's Dubai team arranges your cabin, flights to Cairo, transfers and pre- or post-cruise hotel nights, so the whole Nile journey is booked in one place.

Question 10

How do I book the Viking Aton from Dubai with CruiseWorld?

Accepted Answer

Contact CruiseWorld's Dubai team by phone, WhatsApp or the website form. We help you choose the right stateroom category and sailing date, then handle flights, transfers and hotel stays, and send a single booking covering your entire trip.

Question 11

Do I need a visa for a river cruise in Europe?

Accepted Answer

No Schengen visa here: travellers to Egypt need an Egyptian visa, which most nationalities can obtain on arrival or online as an e-visa. CruiseWorld confirms the current requirements for your nationality when you book.

Question 12

Are gratuities included in the fare?

Accepted Answer

Gratuities are not included. Viking suggests a modest daily amount per guest for the crew, which can be added to your onboard account, and a separate amount for the program director on some itineraries.

Question 13

What happens if river water levels are too high or low?

Accepted Answer

Rarely, heavy rain or drought can restrict a river section. Viking handles it smoothly: the itinerary may be run in reverse, a section replaced by coaches or a sister ship, and affected guests are informed and looked after throughout.

Question 14

What is there to do at night on a river ship?

Accepted Answer

Evenings bring local performers on board, a pianist in the lounge, wine and food tastings, quizzes and port talks for the next day. The bar and lounge are the social heart, and most guests are up early for the next port.

Question 15

Will I get seasick on a river cruise?

Accepted Answer

Very unlikely. Rivers are calm water with no swell, and the ship's stabilisers are effectively the banks on either side. Most guests who feel queasy at sea notice nothing on a river; motion-sickness tablets are rarely needed.

Question 16

Are shore excursions included in the fare?

Accepted Answer

Yes. One excursion in every port is included, with an English-speaking local guide and complimentary headsets. Additional optional excursions are available to book on board.
