Oceania Cruises has announced a significant shift in its onboard experience, confirming that it will transition to an adults-only cruise line, effective 7 January 2026. Under the new policy, all guests sailing with Oceania Cruises must be 18 years or older at the time of departure.
The cruise line has clarified that existing bookings made prior to 7 January 2026 that include children will be fully honored, ensuring no disruption for guests who have already confirmed their voyages.
Why Oceania Cruises Is Transitioning to Adults-Only Sailings

According to Oceania Cruises, the decision reflects its long-standing commitment to delivering a refined and immersive cruise experience. The policy shift is designed to further enhance the relaxed atmosphere, genuine hospitality, and meaningful connections that have become hallmarks of Oceania voyages.
By transitioning to an adults-only model, Oceania Cruises aims to elevate the essence of its brand—one defined by sophistication, serenity, and discovery. The move reinforces the line’s focus on destination-rich itineraries, culinary excellence, and thoughtfully curated onboard experiences tailored to adult travelers seeking a calm and culturally engaging environment at sea.
A Strategic Shift in Oceania’s Brand Positioning

The announcement positions Oceania Cruises alongside a growing segment of premium and Luxury lifestyle cruise brands that prioritize tranquil, adult-focused travel experiences. With this move, Oceania becomes the third major cruise line to operate an adults-only policy, joining Viking Cruises, which has long limited sailings to guests aged 18 and over, and Virgin Voyages, which pioneered a modern, adults-only approach to cruising. The shift signals a clear evolution in Oceania’s strategic direction, reinforcing its focus on sophistication, serenity, and destination-driven experiences.
What This Means for Travelers

For travelers seeking an adult-only cruise experience, particularly couples, solo travelers, and guests who prefer a calm, refined atmosphere without children onboard, this announcement further positions Oceania Cruises as a strong option in the luxury and premium cruise space. The move aligns with growing demand for quieter ships, elevated dining and social environments designed for adults. As more cruise lines refine their onboard concepts, adult-only cruising continues to appeal to those prioritizing relaxation, sophistication, and meaningful time at sea.

For first-time cruisers, choosing between an ocean cruise and a river cruise can be confusing. Both offer incredible travel experiences — but they’re very different in style, pace, and destination. This guide will help you understand the key differences and decide which type of cruise is the best fit for your travel personality, budget, and interests.
What’s the Difference Between Ocean and River Cruises?

Comparison at a glance:

Ocean Cruises: Big Ships, Big Adventures

Ocean cruises are what most people picture when they think of cruising: floating resorts that sail across seas and oceans to island or coastal destinations. They offer the classic cruise experience — and are especially popular among first-time cruisers.
Highlights of Ocean Cruises:
- Tons of onboard amenities: Pools, theaters, shopping malls, spas, kids’ clubs, water parks, zip lines, and more
- Wide range of itineraries: Caribbean, Mediterranean, Alaska, Asia, Transatlantic, and more
- Great for families, groups, and budget-conscious travelers
- Frequent promotions and deals make ocean cruising affordable
- More nightlife and entertainment for those who want to stay social
✅ Best for: Families, couples, solo travelers, and beginners who want variety, fun, and lots to do at sea.
River Cruises: Intimate, Immersive, and Culture-Rich

River cruises sail on inland waterways like the Danube, Rhine, Nile, Mekong, or Mississippi, taking you straight into the heart of historic cities and charming towns. The vibe is more laid-back and immersive, with a strong focus on culture and scenery.
- Smaller ships = more personal service and no crowds
- Dock right in the city center — step off the ship and start exploring!
- Culturally enriching experiences: Guided walking tours, local cuisine, wine tastings, guest lecturers
- More inclusive: Fares often include excursions, drinks, and Wi-Fi
- Smooth sailing with virtually no motion sickness
✅ Best for: Mature travelers, couples, culture lovers, and anyone looking for a slower, more refined journey.

When most travelers think of cruising, the first image that comes to mind is a massive ocean liner sailing between tropical islands. But there’s another style of cruising that’s gaining more and more attention among travelers looking for something unique, intimate, and culturally enriching: river cruising.
Unlike ocean cruises, river cruises sail through the heart of countries along iconic waterways such as the Rhine, Danube, Seine, Nile, and Mekong - offering passengers an up-close look at cities, towns, and villages that are often inaccessible to larger ships. Imagine waking up in the heart of Vienna, docking steps away from Budapest’s Parliament, or gliding past vineyards in France’s wine country. That’s the magic of a river cruise. Whether you’re planning to book a river cruise from Dubai, searching for the best European river cruises, or curious about luxury river cruises in Egypt or Asia, this guide will help you choose the perfect journey.
Why Choose a River Cruise?
Smaller, Intimate Experience

River cruise ships typically carry between 100–200 guests, creating a more relaxed and personalized experience compared to ocean liners.
Scenic Sailing

River cruises offers a Scenic Views All the Way Unlike ocean cruises with endless seas, expect to see castles, rolling hills, vineyards, and historic towns right outside your window.
Immersive Destinations

River cruises focus heavily on culture and history. Many itineraries include guided walking tours, visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, food tastings, and cultural performances.
Convenience & Comfort

River cruises offer an effortless travel experience with smaller ships, fewer guests, and centrally located ports. Embarkation and disembarkation are quick and easy, eliminating long queues, tender boats, or complex logistics, allowing guests to move seamlessly between ship and shore without delays or time-consuming transfers.
Culture & History at Your Doorstep

River cruises dock in the very heart of historic cities, offering immersive travel experience. Whether you choose to step ashore for guided excursions or relax onboard, iconic landmarks, riverside architecture, and city skylines unfold directly outside your window making the view itself a cultural experience.
All-Inclusive Perks

Many river cruise lines include excursions, drinks, and Wi-Fi in their fares, making them great value for travelers who prefer everything bundled together.
No Worries About Seasickness

Antarctica - the last frontier is one of the most coveted destinations for adventurous and luxury travelers. Famous for its untouched landscapes, towering icebergs, penguin colonies, and surreal beauty, an Antarctica cruise is unlike any other voyage on earth. In fact, the only way to experience Antarctica is by cruise, as there are no commercial flights that land on the continent for tourists. Yet one of the most common questions we hear is: how much does it cost to cruise to Antarctica?
What Makes an Antarctica Cruise Special?

Unlike typical cruises to Europe or the Caribbean, an Antarctica cruise is an expedition. Ships are designed to navigate icy waters, offering luxury comfort while taking you to one of the most remote places on earth. Guests can enjoy guided Zodiac excursions, wildlife encounters, and expert-led lectures, making it a perfect blend of adventure and luxury.
Antarctica Cruise Costs: What to Expect

The cost of an Antarctica cruise depends on the cruise line, level of luxury, duration, itinerary and your point of departure. In this guide, we break down the full costs, from cruise fares, international flights, pre-cruise hotels, guided excursions, and luxury upgrades, designed especially for Dubai, UAE and GCC travelers planning their ultimate journey to the White Continent.
Standard Expedition Cruises: Starting from $8,000–$12,000 per person for 9–12 nights. These include comfortable cabins, guided excursions, tour gears, and basic amenities.
Premium Expedition Cruises: Ranging from $12,000–$15,000 per person, for 12 to 18 days offering larger staterooms, specialty dining, and enhanced onboard service.
Ultra-Luxury Discovery Yachts (e.g., Scenic Eclipse Yachts, Silversea Expeditions, Seabourn Venture): Prices start from $15,000 per person and can exceed $35,000+ per person for 12 to 21 days depending on suite category and inclusions. These yachts feature Michelin-starred dining, luxury spas, helicopters, submarines, curated excursions to remote locations and personalised service.
👉 These Prices typically exclude international flights, so travelers from Dubai & GCC need to factor in airfare to South America (usually Buenos Aires, Argentina, or Punta Arenas, Chile).
What’s Included in an Antarctica Cruise Price

Most Antarctica cruises, whether luxury expeditions or more adventure-focused voyages are designed to be largely all-inclusive, since the region is remote and logistics are complex. Typical inclusions are:
- Accommodation – From expedition-style cabins to ultra-luxury suites designed for comfort in remote regions.
- Fine Dining – Full-board meals, from casual buffets to fine dining
- Excursions – Zodiac landings, guided hikes, penguin & wildlife viewing, and iceberg explorations led by polar experts.
- Expedition Team – Lectures, briefings, and guidance from naturalists, scientists, and seasoned explorers.
- Polar Gear – Parkas, waterproof boots, Gloves, Safety gear, Reusable water bottles are typically provided for use during your voyage.
- Onboard Amenities – Access to lounges, spas, wellness facilities, enrichment activities, lectures and photography workshops
This all-inclusive structure allows travelers to focus on the experience rather than worrying about hidden costs, making it one of the most seamless ways to explore Antarctica. Tip: Depending on the cruise line, certain extras, such as alcoholic beverages, internet, premium excursions (e.g., kayaking, Helicopter tours, camping), or spa services—may come at an additional cost.
Which Cruise Lines Sail to Antarctica?

A wide range of cruise lines operate to Antarctica, catering to different travel styles and preference:
Adventure & Expedition Specialists: Lindblad National Geographic, Quark Expeditions, Hurtigruten, Oceanwide Expeditions.
Ultra-Luxury Expedition Options: Silversea Expeditions, Seabourn, Ponant Explorer, Scenic Eclipse, Swan Hellenic
Premium Boutique Expedition: Aurora Expeditions, Albatros Expeditions, Atlas Ocean Voyages, Viking
Whether you’re seeking a rugged, adventure-style voyage or a refined luxury experience, there’s an Antarctica cruise for every type of traveler.
Additional Costs for UAE/GCC Travelers:

International Flights: There are no direct flights to Antarctica embarkation port. Most travelers will fly from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or other GCC hubs to Buenos Aires, Argentina, or Santiago, Chile. Roundtrip international airfare typically ranges from $1,500–$2,000 on economy class ticket depending on airline
Local Transfers & Domestic Flights: Most Antarctica cruises depart from smaller ports such as Ushuaia, Argentina, or Punta Arenas, Chile, which often require short domestic flights and transfers from international airports. Most premium to luxury cruises include the cost of domestic flights and an overnight hotel at the departure port, but it’s always best to confirm with the cruise line. If not covered, travelers should budget approximately $150–$300 for a domestic flight (around 3.5 hours) and $50–$75 per transfer each way between the airport and hotel.
Pre-Cruise Hotels: It’s highly recommended to arrive 1–2 days before departure to recover from long-haul flights and jet lag. Hotel costs vary by city and star rating; expect $150–$400 per night for a 4–5 star hotel including breakfast.
Visas: Visa requirements depend on nationality. UAE / GCC residents or passport holders generally require an Argentina or Chile visa, with fees ranging from $80–$150.
Optional Pre-Cruise Tours: If you arrive one or two days early, you might consider guided tours to explore Argentina or Chile. After all, it’s a long 15+ hour journey just to embark on an Antarctica cruise—why not take the opportunity to discover these top South American destinations? For a trip like this, we recommend arriving 3 to 5 days earlier to fully experience the region before setting sail to the White Continent
By factoring in all these elements—cruise fare, international flights, pre-cruise hotel, visas, local transfers, and excursions—UAE and GCC travelers can plan a realistic budget for this once-in-a-lifetime Antarctic journey.
Best Time to Visit Antarctica

The Antarctica cruise season runs from November to March:
November–December: Early season with pristine snow and ice, penguin courtship season.
January–February: Warmest period, excellent for wildlife spotting and whale watching.
March: Late season, with fewer ships and quieter landscapes.
Why Antarctica Cruises Are Worth the Cost

While prices are higher than traditional cruises, the experience is unmatched. You’re paying not just for luxury, but for:
- Access to one of the most remote destinations on Earth
- Expert guides, naturalists, and scientists onboard
- Once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounters (penguins, seals, whales)
- Unparalleled comfort aboard luxury discovery yachts
It’s not just a cruise – it’s a bucket-list expedition.

An opulent new era of cruising begins with grand design, sweeping ocean views, and jewel-like interiors. Luxury takes center stage once again as Regent Seven Seas Cruises unveils the first glimpse inside its newest vessel, the Seven Seas Prestige, set to debut in 2026. The reveal includes stunning renderings of several public spaces—including the magnificent Starlight Atrium, Galileo’s Bar, the inviting Prestige Lounge, the elegant Reception Area, and the sumptuous Opulent Lounge—offering guests a preview of the style and splendor awaiting on board.
A Floating Palace of Design

Designed by the acclaimed Studio DADO, the interiors of Seven Seas Prestige reflect a seamless blend of artistic heritage and modern luxury. The Starlight Atrium, a two-deck-high masterpiece at the heart of the ship, was envisioned as a space where “the grandeur of Renaissance architecture meets modern luxury,” said Yohandel Ruiz, Founding Partner at Studio DADO.
From the moment guests enter, the space is designed to dazzle. Regal twin spiral staircases sweep upward beneath a soaring, glass-enclosed ceiling that fills the area with natural light. Floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows offer uninterrupted ocean views—perfect for dramatic sunrises or golden-hour cocktails.
Regent describes the atrium’s aesthetic as “a tribute to quality craftsmanship,” featuring rich textures like pleated leather panels, intricate embellished trims, and a serene color palette of soft creams, brushed taupes, and royal blues. The goal, Ruiz notes, was “to get people to stop in their tracks, awe-struck by its sheer scale and magnificence.”
Jewel-Inspired Details in Every Corner

Attention to detail is woven throughout the interiors. Light fixtures sparkle like fine jewelry, while handblown glass elements and ceramic pearl accents create an atmosphere of refined artistry. These carefully chosen materials lend each space a curated, couture-like quality—elevating the onboard experience to something truly special.
A Toast to Legacy: Galileo’s Bar

Just off the atrium, Galileo’s Bar offers a stylish retreat that pays homage to the beloved Galileo’s Lounge aboard the Seven Seas Navigator—a ship set to retire from the Regent fleet in 2026. This chic new space carries forward the legacy with an entirely modern flair. Guests can expect an atmosphere of quiet glamour, with limestone-clad walls, a boldly striped floor, and a ceiling adorned with a large-scale contemporary artwork reminiscent of an oil painting. It's a natural gathering spot for sipping Champagne, enjoying pre-dinner cocktails, or simply soaking in the ship’s refined ambiance.
Prestige Lounge: Sophistication in Every Detail

The Prestige Lounge, another newly revealed space, offers a refined retreat for guests seeking a quieter, more intimate atmosphere. Furnished with plush seating and curated art pieces, it’s designed for conversation, reading, or enjoying a peaceful coffee or nightcap. The layout balances privacy with elegance, making it a favorite hideaway for those who appreciate understated luxury.
A Warm Welcome: Reception Area and Opulent Lounge
